Sushi Go! Rules

A fast-paced card game where players draft sushi dishes to create the most valuable combinations. The goal is to score points by selecting and collecting different types of sushi while strategically passing cards to opponents

Objective: The goal of Sushi Go! is to accumulate the most points by creating the best combinations of sushi dishes over three rounds

Setup:

  1. 2 to 5 players.

  2. Scratch pad to keep score

  3. Shuffle the deck of sushi cards and deal a starting hand of cards to each player based on the round

    • 2 players: (round 1: 10 cards, round 2: 10 cards, round 3: 8 cards)

    • 3 players: (round 1: 9 cards, round 2: 9 cards, round 3: 7 cards)

    • 4 players: (round 1: 8 cards, round 2: 8 cards, round 3: 6 cards)

    • 5 players: (round 1: 7 cards, round 2: 7 cards, round 3: 5 cards)

  4. Different types of sushi cards have various point-scoring mechanics, see below for a cheat sheet:

  • Nigiri cards provide a fixed number of points

  • Sashimi cards score points for sets of three

  • Tempura cards score points for pairs

  • Dumpling cards score points based on how many you have

  • Maki cards score points based on who has the most and second-most (points are divided among ties)

  • Wasabi card is a multiplier for one nigiri, you must play it first and then in a later rotation during the game you can place a nigiri on top of the wasabi

  • Chopsticks card can be placed face up and held during a round

    • During a round, the player can then yell Sushi Go! before reveals and place an additional card down so the player using the chopstick will reveal two cards

    • The player then puts the chop stick card back in to the hand before rotating the hand down

  • Pudding card is held on once placed down and is not discarded at the end of the round - instead pudding cards are tallied at the end of the three rounds

    • Player with the most number of pudding cards gain 6 points (divide the 6 among first place ties), and the player with least amount of pudding loses 6 points - divided among last place ties

Instructions

Step 1

Players simultaneously choose one card from their hand to play face-down in front of them. Players should decide which cards to keep as players must collect a certain combination of cards as indicated on each "sushi" card to get the pre-determined number of points

Hence, players must consider both immediate points and future potential

Step 2

Once all players have selected a card, everyone reveals their chosen card simultaneously.

Step 3

Pass the remaining hand of cards to the player on the left

Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 until each person has no more cards in their hands - the round has ended

Step 5

After each round, players tally the points for the sushi cards they played.

  1. Record the scores on the scratch pad and repeat steps 1-4

  2. Total the scores after the third round to determine the winner (including pudding)

Step 6

The player with the highest total score at the end of three rounds wins

Have fun! :)
