Checkers rules

A board game where each player starts with 12 pieces and aims to eliminate the opponent's pieces by jumping over them

Objective: The goal of checkers is to capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them so that they cannot make a legal move

Setup:

  1. 2 players

  2. Each player has 12 pieces, typically placed on the three rows closest to them.

  • See below for how to setup a checkers board

Instructions

Movement

  1. All regular pieces move diagonally forward one space

  2. If a piece reaches the last row on the opponent's side, it is "kinged" and can move diagonally both forward and backward.

  • To mark a piece is a king, double stack the checker piece

Capturing as a regular piece

If an opponent's piece is diagonally adjacent and there is an empty square immediately beyond it, a player can jump over and capture that piece

  • After capturing, the player can continue to jump if more captures are possible (multiple jumps in one turn are allowed as long as it's moving forward) with the same piece

King capture

Kings can move and capture diagonally both forward and backward and in combination

Ending the game

The game ends when one player captures all the opponent's pieces or blocks them from making a legal move

Draw

A draw can be declared if the same position is repeated three times or if both players agree
